Google has just revealed its groundbreaking Large Language Model (LLM), PaLM 2, during the Google I/O event. This next-generation language model boasts impressive features and applications, setting Google on course to regain its position at the forefront of artificial intelligence.
Google is enhancing its Workspace apps (Docs, Sheets, and Slides) with the new product, Duet AI. Here's what to expect:
Six more generative AI features are on the horizon, with trusted testers getting access next month and general availability slated for later this year.
Google aims to outperform other AI systems with PaLM 2, showcasing its abilities during the annual I/O conference. The company is also integrating PaLM 2 into 25 new products and features, racing to catch up with competitors and applying years of AI research to practical applications.
PaLM 2's versatility allows it to power ChatGPT-style chatbots, translate between languages, write computer code, and even analyze and respond to images. Users can ask questions in one language and receive answers in another, complete with relevant pictures and code snippets.
Slav Petrov, the co-lead of the PaLM 2 project, expressed excitement about making these models broadly available, stating that they will "open up a lot of opportunities to do things that were previously thought magic and really out of reach."
PaLM 2 will be accessible through Google's chatbot, Bard, which is rolling out globally and supports English, Japanese, and Korean languages. The company plans to extend support to 40 languages in the future.
Bard users can now send photos ๐ธ, and the AI will generate relevant responses. For example, a user could send a picture of ingredients on their kitchen shelf and receive a recipe suggestion.
